The development of the specific training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, with the guidelines approved and recommended by the UEMS, is today in Spain an urgent necessity for the better treatment of our children and adolescents with mental disorders.
The Spanish Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AEPNYA), the Spanish Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (SEPYPNA) and the Child Psychiatry Section of the Spanish Association of Neuropsychiatry informed yesterday to the UEMS about the actual situation of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry medical specialty in Spain.
The Spanish Ministry of Health has decided the creation of this medical specialty in the country, but the commission for its development has not been called by that Ministry in the last year.
So, the three Spanish societies and the UEMS congratulate the Ministry of Health for the decision of creating the specialty, but also want to remember that it is necessary the reactivation of its development process. Today Spain is still an exception among the European countries because of the absence of an official and specific training, and a specific clinical attention for child and adolescence mental disorders.
